Ternary Rare Earth Transition Metal Zinc Compounds
Forty eight new com pounds RT2Z n2o were prepared by annealing cold-pressed pellets o f the elem ental com ponents in an argon atm osphere. They crystallize with the cubic CeCr^Abo type structure (Fd3m , Z = 8), which was refined from single-crystal diffractom eter data o f TbFeiZn^o (a = 1411.1(1) pm), Y Ru2Z n2o (a = 1422.6(1) pm), D yRu2Z n2o (a = 1422.1(1) pm), G dC o2Z n2o (a = 1406.0(1) p...
متن کاملHigh superconducting transition temperatures of new rare earth ternary borides.
A new group of ternary borides has been found that show either ferromagnetism or superconductivity. Their general formula is MRh(4)B(4) where M is a transition or rare-earth element. Their superconducting transition temperatures range from approximately 2.5 K for the Sm compound to approximately 12 K for the Lu compound.
متن کاملMagnetic properties of some equiatomic ternary rare-earth compounds.
Interesting and diverse magnetic behavior has been reported in the literature on the rare-earth-based equiatomic ternary compounds. For example, CeGeGa (Ref. l) and possible CePdSb (Ref. 2) are dense Kondo ferromagnets, while hybridization-induced pseudogap formation at the Fermi level at low temperatures occurs in the nonmagnetic CeRhSb (Ref. 3) and CeNiSn. ' A massive heavy-electron state wit...
متن کاملRare earth magnetism and ferroelectricity in RMnO3
Magnetic rare earths R have been proven to have a significant effect on the multiferroic properties of the orthorhombic manganites RMnO3. A re-examination of previous results from synchrotron based x-ray scattering experiments suggests that symmetric exchange striction between neighboring R and Mn ions may account for the enhancement of the ferroelectric polarization in DyMnO3 as well as the ma...
متن کاملRe-entrant spin susceptibility of a superconducting grain
We study the spin susceptibility chi of a small, isolated superconducting grain. Because of the interplay between parity effects and pairing correlations, the dependence of chi on temperature T is qualitatively different from the standard BCS result valid in the bulk limit. If the number of electrons on the grain is odd, chi shows a re-entrant behavior as a function of temperature. This behavio...
